Aeon Flux (2005) - Not the worst movie
Aeon Flux (2005)
I went to see this tonight and have to say that it didn't suck. Now I went in with very low expectations. I was not a fan of the cartoon on MTV. That out of the way, this was a nice action scifi romp. There was some shooting. Some explosions and a plot twist that I did not see coming.
I doubt there will be another movie in the series made, but that is not the worst thing. A good stand alone sci fi story is never a bad thing.
When this comes out on DVD you might want to own it if you are a scifi movie obscessive, but you will not be unhappy if you rent it or catch it on comcast ondemand.

Math Professor Solves Decades-Old Problem
Math Professor Solves Decades-Old Problem: "The problem, known as Kato's Conjecture, applies to the theory of waves moving through different media, such as seismic waves traveling through different types of rock. It bears the name of Tosio Kato, a now-deceased mathematician at the University of California-Berkeley, who posed the problem in research papers first written in 1953 and again in 1961.
Part of the problem, called the one-dimensional version, was solved about 20 years ago. Though it was a breakthrough, work remained. Hofmann solved the problem in all its dimensions in a 120-word paper that he wrote with several colleagues Pascal Auscher, Michael Lacey, John Lewis, Alan McIntosh and Philippe Tchamitchian."
Who says theres nothing new to be discovered. I am a mathophile. I am just good enough to get by and I can read and understand the texts of those who are really good at it. This is so cool.

TheDBA
In case you wondering what that is on the left under my provile, that is my xbox live gamer tag. If you are an xbox live member you can see more about my gaming reputation and even see if I am on-line and what I am playing.
For those privacy nuts out there, you can turn this stuff off, but I don't really care if anyone knows what I am playing.
For me the XBox 360 achievements are like an MMORPG. My character class is gamer.

Radio Should be Free - That plan worked well against Cable Television
Commercial Radio has finally realzied that its days of dominance are coming to and end. Maybe Howard Sternand Sirius can get some of the credit, but XM was there before Sirius with Opie and Anthony.
The big boys of commercial radio are trying a big campaign now of Radio Should be Free. Ummmm.... having to listen to 26 minutes of commercials an hour is hardly free.
This same tactic was used by television 20 plus years ago against cable. We see how well that worked. Cable went away and we only have over the air broadcasts.

New York Transit Strike.
Listening to Opie and Anthony this morning I am suddenly very thankful that the mass transit system in Atlanta is not more advanced. New York with arguably the most advanced mass transit system in the world is paralyzed due to a strike.
The Marta Workers could go on strike in Atlanta and it would add 10 minutes to the commute on the interstate. I am sure the news media would make it out to be Armageddon, but most would never notice.

King Kong (2005) - I loved it
King Kong (2005)
Well the box office take is not all that great so far for this epic movie, but all that proves to me is that I am not part of the main stream. I loved it. My wife loved it. My son loved it. Now that is a rarity.
This was an awesome remake of a good movie and this one will stand that test of time as a great movie. The character depth is amazing and Kong himself is an amazing character.
Peter Jackson outdid himself. Now how will he do with Halo? Will I feel for the Master Chief? Will I understand the Elites? I am betting that I will.

King Kong was amazing
It is rare that I sit 3 hours in a theaters with no complaints. Peter Jackson proved that he is one of the great directors of our time. Sure this is the second remake of the story. But this time it was done to perfection. I am not sure that I found a serious flaw. And a word of warning, you will cry. This is an emotional story. Naomi Watts was fantastic, and Jack Black was perfect in the role of the movie maker.
You know this story, but you will see it in a different light. There are some things that one would call spoilers. I will wait a few weeks to talk about those things.
Make you plans and go see this movie.

The 10 Most Puzzling Ancient Artifacts
The 10 Most Puzzling Ancient Artifacts
I just love this kind of stuff. Most of it can be dismissed easily. If there is no evidence then it is bullshit, but it is still funny.
I love some of the assumptions in the linked articles, one author says this proves that the bible is right, becuase the items appear to be millions of years old. While I make no secret of my feelings on religion and evolution I am not going there. Isn't it even more likely that our fossil evidence is just not extensive enough. Maybe our assumptions about the age of humans is wrong. Just because we have had a good 5000 years doesn't mean that previous human societies didn't rise and fall for millions of years.
While most of this is just bullshit it is still fun.

Battlestar Glactica Now on iTunes Video
I love the fact that they have put up Season 2 on iTunes. Will I buy it? Nope, I don't have a video iPod, and I will be buying the DVDs. However for those that have missed an episode or just have a favorite this is great. The overhead costs on this are almost nothing. If a show is on DVD is become a product that must be delivered to a store and it must be replenished when purchased. Now with iTunes this show is sitting there just using a small amount of disk space and it only uses bandwidth when someone purchases it.
I think that this is the start of things to come. I know there are people out there who will mock this and scream about how bad this is with DRM. I see this as an opportunity to get the information I want in the way that I want. I don't mind paying for things. If it is something I value I don't mind trading something of value of mine for it.
Now, if you want a complaint go with the fact that the video quality is not up to DVD standards. I think that will be over come once this is shown to be a success.

' Opie and Anthony' fan disrupts live broadcast
' Opie and Anthony' fan disrupts live broadcast
They may be on their way off the air again. They have said on air that their gut feeling is that they will be fired again. Maybe just a stunt to get attention in the media before Howard hits the air in January.
There are better ways to get media attention, and I am betting that XM will cut them loose if lawsuits are filed.
